I'm still struggling to see, so bear with me here. I wanted to write a blog post and tell you about this awesome site I found quite a while ago.
This site has enabled me to 'disable' the Facebook Timeline that they now are forcing on all pages and soon on everyone else.
This is easy to do, however, *if* you don't like using more than one browser, this may not be for you.
Here's how I disabled my 'Timeline' on Facebook. *NOTE*: This ONLY works on computers, NOT on Facebook mobile---yet, the only way I can see it possibly working is if you download the file to your phone....but I'm not trying it on my honey's phone as it's not mine to try. It also *only* works for FireFox, Google Chrome, Safari, & Opera.
Here's how you do it:
- First, install Fluff Busting Purity for whichever browser you're using: *here*. Note: FB Purity WILL not run in Internet Explorer(IE). It runs in: Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome(the one I use), and also Opera.
- Next, after installing FB Purity for whichever browser you're using(not IE), which *use* to be *Better Facebook* and then *Facebook Purity*, but well, the poor guy had to change it yet again to avoid trouble with Facebook, then once you install it, click *here* to disable your Timeline on your personal profile page.
- Next, once you download the link to your desktop(for easy access & less confusion), whichever browser you're using, for example Google Chrome, close out *ALL* browsers. Just close them out. Start fresh.
- Next: Go to your desktop where you downloaded the .bat file. Instead of clicking Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera, or Safari, click the '.bat' file instead.
- This opens you to Facebook making your computer *think* you're using Internet Explorer, when however, you're really not.
- Refresh your Facebook Profile, boom, should be right back to the 'normal' that we're all *use* to.
- NOTE: This will NOT work on pages yet. I'm sure the guy will try and figure out a way to fix that but for now, those with pages, we're all well, doomed by Timeline.
- HINT: When doing this, you *can* surf the net on other tabs, however, in Google Chrome, I discovered that I am not able to blog, nor am I able to check my email while using this. It could be 'Internet Explorer essentric' as my sweetie would say, but I'm not sure why it does this, so I have to use both Firefox(for browsing, mail and my blog)to view my stuff, and the FB Purity file for my Facebook only.
Also, come back and comment and let me know if this worked for you like it did for me! :) Just remember, it doesn't work for Fan Pages yet, not sure about groups, but not fan pages yet. :( Nor am I positive if it will ever work for Fan Pages.
A great *BIG* THANK YOU to Fluff Busting Purity for all their WONDERFUL help and helping to keep things as 'normal' as we're use to. FBPurity puts in A LOT of hours doing this, if you can, please also help give him a donation for doing this for us all. Even just $5. This is 'his' job, doing things like this to *help* others enjoy Facebook much more. :)
